What is going on in Durararax2?
With the end of the last episode of the first section (shou) of durararax2, I'd be willing to bet a lot of people are sitting there with their mouths slack open like WHAT?!??! What happened?!? What's going on?! Now if you didn't watch the most recent episode yet, I'd highly suggest you don't read the next paragraph because it is spoiler-road ahead.
Why are people freaking out?
Well for one Mikado stabbed Aoba in the hand with a pen. Pretty hardcore right? Right. We never knew our cute, little, quiet high school boy could pull off something so badass. But anyway-- There's been a lot of talk going around about Mikado being crazy or a psychopath, but if that's what someone gathered from that scene then I'd say they haven't been paying attention hard enough.
Mikado has been going through a lot prior to this scene. The Dollars has quite certainly become a part of his who he is and what he identifies as: It is to him where '' he belongs''; it is where he met all of these interesting, cool, and/or supportive people; it MADE HIM SOMEBODY. He felt like he had purpose. Look, this is your typical teenage boy who has probably never been in the spotlight in his life and now he has something that makes him someone-- makes people notice him. Naturally, it would be important to him.
Throughout the season, he has become increasingly aware, and people have even told him that he was losing his grip on the Dollars- That he should just let go. That it was growing faster than he could catch up. To Mikado that means losing the one thing he had control over, the one thing that gave him purpose. Now Aoba comes around and wants him to control a ''special sector'' of the blue squares, because Aoba recognizes that Mikado has those connections and could pull strings should they need to be pulled. Before an agreement is made, Celty and others intervened and Mikado gets away. But this offer makes the gears turn in Mikado's head-- Aoba wanted to use him-- He could use Aoba instead. He could use their strength and their connections to maintain some degree of power- To help the Dollars. Or so he says.
Two, Izaya is stabbed, and falls to the ground in the middle of Ikebukero. What bothered me was there was this one part in the manga that they failed to put in the anime, and I don't know if they're going to switch the scenes that follow this one up or not... But when Izaya fell to the ground and you see him reaching for his phone, he was planning on calling Namie for help because he could not afford to go to any normal hospital when there were likely people out there who would REALLY kill him. I feel like that was an important detail, but it wasn't in the anime so I thought I'd share that with you.
Will Izaya be okay? Well, I'm not going to go too far ahead and spoil too much, but the answer is... THIS won't kill him. He will end up in a nearby hospital, until he is okay enough to escape since he realizes it's too dangerous for too many reasons to continue being there. (Minus the fact that someone tries to attack him while he is still in the hospital--No more hints! It's from the light novel.)
So what is going on? This whole section of durararax2 was set-up. It is a set-up for things to come- And as you can see, it's going to get really dark, and really violent. Have fun kids!
