Personally, my favorite flavor is taro. It has a nutty, vanilla taste to it- My sister said it was like drinking a cookie- But I think she was exaggerating a little on the sweetness. Yes, it's a sweet drink, and it's very vanilla-y. But it is delicious! I got my best friend to try taro tapioca boba tea at the mall recently and now she is addicted to it (rightfully so)! But, if you are a boba tea fan, you'd know that buying a drink at the mall can get expensive- About $3-5 per drink. So, a couple of months ago I decided 'Why not just buy the taro mix, buy tapioca bubbles (boba) and make it myself?' So that's what I did. And it came in the mail from amazon within about a week. I made it once for myself, and then I had to share it with my friend again. It was so delicious! And it was only $14.54 for the taro mix (100 servings per bag!), and $4.92 for the tapioca balls-- That's about $20 total, and you can make VERY many drinks with that money, versus the measly 4 drinks you could buy with that money at a mall.
But how do I make taro boba tea? Well- Once you have the taro powder you can but about 2 or 3 (depending on your preference) tablespoons of the powder in your blender- Along with about 10 cups of ice, and about half a cup of coffee creamer (yes, coffee creamer and/or half &half is a common ingredient in most boba teas- When they say 'milk' tea... It's usually not milk) again, depending on your preference to how much creamer you want or need. And blend. Meanwhile, you will need to put 1/2 a cup of the tapioca bubbles into boiling water until they bloat a little. Once they bloat, put a lid over your pot and let it go for about 6 minutes, taking off the lid and stirring occasionally. After the boba is done, seperate it from the water with a strainer-- After it is seperated from the water, some people sprinkle white sugar or honey over the boba so that the boba will soak it up and sweeten it. Then simply put your taro smoothie in a cup and add the boba, and stir until the boba is distributed evenly among the cup. You will need a wide straw to soak up the tapioca balls while drinking. And enjoy!
